Standing Apart

Restoring Faith in State Government - Schroder was one of six Republicans to break ranks and elect a new Speaker on January 2, 2007. Curt Schroder believed a fresh start was needed in Harrisburg. The old ways under existing leadership were no longer acceptable. Click here to read about Curt's courageous vote to turn out Philadelphia power broker John Perzel and elect a new House Speaker.

Leading the Way on Reform - Curt Schroder initiated the original reform proposal in the House, the Jefferson Reform Initiative. Curt realized that House leaders possessed too much power and wielded it against the public interest. Click here to read about the Jefferson Reform Initiative. Schroder's reform efforts resulted in his appointment to the Speaker's Reform Commission. His work on the Commission resulted in a complete re-write of House Rules to make legislative operations more transparent and allowing House members to better represent their districts. Click here to read about the work of the Speaker's Reform Commission.

Civil Justice Reform - Curt Schroder is a champion of efforts to reform our courts and legal system. Curt led the House efforts on Medical Malpractice reform. Click here to read about Curt's advocacy on medical malpractice. Curt Schroder went to extraordinary lengths to pass a cap on non economic damages in medical malpractice cases. He invoked the seldom used discharge petition to bring the issue before the House. Curt Schroder is not afraid to stand up to special interests and House leaders more interested in maintaining the status quo than in securing real change.
